From her days launching a pretend radio show, acting in plays, giving impromptu puppet shows at school and in the neighborhood, to an “almost” life as a rock star, and finally as a children’s and young adult author, Mary has stories and pictures to make you laugh, ponder, dream, and realize that you, too, have a world of possibilities within you. You can be YOU and dream your wildest, most daring dreams.

HOW TO BAKE A STORY PIE WORKSHOP! What are the ingredients to compose a compelling story that everyone will want to devour. Students of all ages will be able to use this recipe as a repeatable process for making and baking great stories that readers will want to come back to time and time again.

COLLABORATION CAN’T BE SPELLED WITHOUT LAB. And lab’s aren’t just for science. What is a creative lab and how do you work with a team to create stories, poetry, music, and performances? What makes a great collaboration and how do you become a confident, compassionate, considerate, encouraging, and open-minded collaborator? Mary will share her experience with collaboration, how to start a creative lab, and how much fun it can be creating in teams.

HOW TO CREATE A MUSICAL FROM THE HEART AND SOUL! From idea to script, to songs and everything and everyone in between, creating a musical is one of the most rewarding, collaborative invitations. This presentation is presented with Mary’s dear friend and collaborator— respected musician and writer, Randy Preston. Students will have a chance to hear about their experiences crafting musicals for the stage, and will also have an opportunity to collectively write a fun scene together, perform a dramatic reading, and sing a song or two.
